Survey Results
Dear Members of the WCSC;
Thanks very much to everyone that completed the recent survey. I would like to take this opportunity to give you a short overview of the results now that the survey is closed.
Responses
- We received 346 responses representing over 600 players. This is nearly half of the players in the club and certainly makes the results of the survey reliable.
- More than 80% of those responding have a player in house league, but we did get good coverage of micro and competitive soccer as well.
Regarding the cost of our programs
- 69% feel that the house league program is good value at the current price or even at a higher price
- 53% feel this way about competitive soccer
- 67% for skills development and 50% for adult soccer.
Overall satisfaction is quite high for all the clubs programs.
- 89% of respondents are either satisfied or very satisfied with the house league program as it is delivered
- 73% and 78% feel the same way for competitive and adult soccer respectively.
While we on the executive appreciate that the majority of members find the soccer program to be a good value, we know that this is because the executive has done its best to keep costs in check and rest assured we will continue to do so.
For micro soccer
- 87% feel that the program is good value at the current price or even somewhat higher
- 91% of respondents were either satisfied or very satisfied with the way the program is delivered
This program is delivered by the community associations and we will share these results with them via the community representatives on the WCSC executive.
Player, coach and referee development as well as maintenance of existing fields and facilities
- are thought to be important or very important by over 70 % of respondents.
- Development of new fields and facilities are seen to be important or very important by close to 54% of respondents and somewhat important by another 28% of respondents, for a total of 82% overall.
Skills Development
- We received some very good feedback around the subject of skills development and our technical director will be using it to help shape the kind of programs that our members want.
Other Findings
It is the responsibility of the club’s executive to ensure that the house league and competitive programs continue to address and meet the needs of our members. The results for three questions seeking guidance on this type of issue are a follows:
Firstly, 75% of respondents were either unlikely or very unlikely to participate in some form of less formal soccer program instead of house league. Combined with the high overall satisfaction expressed for the house league program, the club will take these findings and continue to try to improve the existing model rather than make large changes.
Second, regarding the length of the house league season, 87% of respondents think it is either too short or just right. Therefore, the club will not be making any changes to the duration of the season.
Third, though a clear majority believe the club should remain local and not consider merging with other clubs for house league, nearly 30% felt it should be considered for competitive soccer. The executive will consult further before any decisions are made in this regard.

In some cases we recalculated percentages to exclude respondents who indicated that the question was not applicable to them. If you have any concerns about this please feel free to get back to me directly and I will explain how we arrived at the figures in this summary.
Once again thanks to everyone who responded and as always if you want to be more involved in soccer there is always room for more volunteers, just contact any member of the executive.
Regards
John Foley President, West Carleton Soccer Club
